~I like 3 and 4. 4 shows a great perspective with the runner trying to beat the throw. Nice work.~

I had just picked up the Nikon 70-300 $150,from the store to shoot a baseball game. Unfortunately, maybe fortunately the game was rained out on my way to the field. Well this is my first shot with the new lens. These are the 2 coaches that was at the field to inform me that the game was cancelled.
I like the shot and feel this lens would have done me a great job. At least I have have great confidence now when I get to shoot the game. |

NIkon D70 with Nikkor 70-300 4-5.6
Shooting in Manual Mode I plan to purchace a brighter lense for football season but, this seems to do well enoughfor baseball and track for the time being. |

hmm, you will need a real fast lens if it's a night game.
Maybe an f1.8 prime. |

2.8 will do great in this stadium.
It is NOT your typical highschool stadium. Lighting is excellent. 10,000 seat stadium. Away games are also well lit. 2 are college stadiums and the other is not great but, the 2.8 should do. |

I just noticed that I am posting under two different names.
I must have registered once before and saved the password on my work computer and forgot about it. Sorry if it confused anyone. |

I just got a d-70 and was thinking about what lens to get . I am looking to photograph my kids high school sports and make some nice prints 8x10 -11x14 ,and was wondering if you have any recomendations? I shot softball, wrestling, basketball, and football, .I was thinking the tamron af28-300 f3.5-6.3 XR DI for softball ,but wasn't sure what would do good in the gym ? Would this lens work well as well,or do you recommedn something else? I don;t know if i would go as high as 1600iso since i am afraid of noise and havent experimented with it yet. Thanks Bill B

the problem with that lens is that to compensate for such a long zoom range, it takes the f stop right up to 6.3, which you really cant use for sports. See if you can afford a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 or equivalant.
