As a volunteer with the local Red Cross I attend events such as this one - I was driving the ambulance in the background.
In between accidents, I find the time to take a few pics with my Fuji S9500 ![]() |

Interesting shot!
Looks just a tad out of focus, but not sure why. Keep up the good work! -- Terry |

Think it could be a DOF issue.... the side looks OK.... I took it into Paint Shop Pro and applied some Unsharp mask and seems to sort it out great!!! Mickey, if you would like me to post that I will.
Looking forward to seeing some more events you attend. Mark. |

If you follow the link
mikefalzon.fotopic.net there are lots motre photos. I liked this shot because I got the ambulance in the back so I was careful with framing. I used manual focus (pushing the side AF button) and prefocussing on the road. Unfortunately not all cars took the same line through the corner! I was almost taken out by one of the EVO's braking a little late when I was looking the other way! |

Have some nice pics in your website.
One question about speed of focus.....Spot vs Multi (saw both in the exif of your pictures). Spot is a bit faster for focus right? |

As best I recall I hardly ever use multi-point focus - I take this as the mode where the camera selects the focus point as the highest contrast point in the photo.
I always use centre focus & re-frame after locking (or use manual & one shot focus). However I agree centre focus is mostly faster. Maybe the exif shows the metering mode? I tend to use manual a lot for the car shots as the scene contrast changes a lot and I try to predict the correct exposure at the point I expect to take the photo. For action photography such as these cars I don't think any autofocus is going to be fast enough. Pre-focus is the way to go. In the latest series (Mizieb) a lot of the shots were against the sun, around 10-12 a.m.so the top of the car tends to get washed out. |

Looks like panning blur to me. The car is relatively sharp, and the blur seems roughly horizontal. Because the car wasn't exactly at right angles to the lens, the different parts of the car should be more or less unsharp, which is kinda what you see.
Nice shot, anyway. |
