AS far as I know you do not need a signed release to use a photo of someone in a newspaper. Frist I think it falls under Freedom of the Press. Secondly if you are at a sports event and the general public is allowed to attend it is a public event. I have never had to worry about a release for any of my news shots.:|

For editorial purposes you do not need any releases signed by anybody to publish their photo.

This would include publishing on your own web site of posting them in this forum.

Selling copies of the photos should not present a problem as it is common practice by newpapers to offer copies of their pictures for sale.

The subjects rights are mainly protected by defamation and copyright laws.

If you use the image fro any other commercial purpose then the question of model and property releases becomes relevant.
