Default Indoor Basketball Shots

I went out for my first time using the 55-200 lens. The lighting inside the gym was not good at all. I get frustrated because I took like a 100 shots and only came out with about 10 good ones. Please give input on how to make these better. I edited them but new ideas are welcome. I shot JPEG in Aperture.

Man that is a dark place to shoot.

The only real way to make these better is to get a lens that is f2 or faster, but even so in a gym that dark you are only talking about getting 1/240s, really you would want to be at 1/400s or higher which needs f1.4 or ISO 6400.

Not that it is really going to help with these but when you find a way to get more light into the lens you want to be in manual mode. The white background and the players in different tops will mess with your exposure. At high ISO you need to be sure you expose correctly, if you have to increase exposure in post production you will get even worse noise.

The other option, given the poor lighting - is to add more light. A powerful external flash can be used - possibly bounced off the ceiling - if not, you can bounce it off the wall behind the backboard. But it needs to be a powerful flash for that.

Unfortunately shooting low light sports is difficult and requires rather expensive gear.
