Sometimes you get lucky at a shoot. They say that the average save on an action sport's shoot is 3%. This was a front kick at the same time as a back kick.

Hi Pete,
Would love to know who they are...... they seem to get everywhere and always have some interesting advice LOL. Personally I would say that keepers are quite a bit higher than that with the right technique with 10% being a bare minimum and probably nearer 30-40% with the right technique and kit. However for work to be submitted as good enough for press publication then this will reduce down, but I digress. At first it looked as if the fighter on the left was just bending over to receive a punishing kick to the bottom as unfortunately his leg was hidden from view by the other fighter. The exposure is good on this as the skin tones are correct and I also like the framing to include the ref, just a shame that some of the integral action is hidden and also you can't see their faces too much. Sometimes it would be nice if our subjects would allow us to suggest the ways that they take part in their sport so we can get better shots :lol: Keep on shooting as I enjoy seeing different sports and your boxing/kickboxing are very interesting. |

Thanks for the reply and input. When headgear is involved, I just give up on faces in action shots, split my time with tight shots for expressions. I get a lot of advice on technique and composition from;
www.sportsshooter.com As you inferred, these are most of the top sports photographers looking for the frame that will pay the bills for the month. |

That's true to get work in papers/magazines the shots have to be a lot better but just to get keepers for fans/players etc it is a lot higher.
I have not spent much time on sportsshooter so will have to look on there again. Would like to see some of your tighter shots as facial expressions are always interesting. |
