Not sure I follow - are you saying you were using single shot instead of ai-servo? or was there some other wisdom in my rant :G

I have been using One shot and I have been having a lot of soft focus issues with basketball. After your post and looking at the manual I feel so dumb

AI-Servo is the way to go. What meter setting do you use?

I use partial metering so as to give more emphasis to my subject and less to the background.

Of course I shootindoor sports in manual mode so it doesn't matter what metering mode the camera is in.
