Nice shots, getting ready to go take some sports shots myself... curious about your settings.

The weather seemed quite nice, I'm wondering why you chose to shoot with ISO 400. Your rebel can go as low as 100, correct?

You are correct on the ISO settings. I usually use ISO 400 with the large lens to add a couple of more f stops plus I think it is a habit from the days of film when I found ISO 400 to be the best all around film. Thanks for the comments.

Sabes - sports shooting is all about shutter speeds and (in field sports) subject isolation. For shutter speeds you typically want 1/500 as a general rule - but if you want to freeze bat / ball - that's 1/1000 for little kids and 1/2000 for older. That usually means higher ISO. Of course you also want subject isolation - which means wide apertures. Typically 2.8 - 4.0 . Although, if you have a long lens and are doing a close-up you can still get some decent shallow DOF. You'll find shooting games like this that when it gets overcast you're in the realm of ISO 800 with a 2.8 lens fairly quickly or ISO 1600 with a 4.0 lens.
