You need to determine if it's an equipment problem or a technique problem. Does the 50mm backfocus for other puroposes? Or just basketball? Does the camera backfocus with other lenses (be careful here - the more DOF you have the harder it is to detect front/back focus issues). Do some tests on stationary subjects and figure out if it's equipment. If it isn't the equipment then it's technique. Typical reasons are: 1. Not tracking a high contrast area 2. not using AI-servo 3. Not keeping focus point on your subject 4. Not tracking long enough before firing shutter (on 20d that's about a second in low light) 5. Change of direction in your subject's movement |
