Three shots from a recent game at Cheshire, the lighting is "orange" and awfull to watch a game in never mind shoot pictures in.
I just got an expodisc to set a custom white balance and was well happy with the results 1) ![]() 2) ![]() 3) ![]() And here is a shot from my last visit to the orange Gym 4) ![]() This was taken using AWB I think the expodisc could prove very usefull? |

The whites may look white but the skin tones look really bad in those expodisk shots. Way too green.

I'd say that something went very wrong in the way you used the Expodisc to set your White Balance.
How did you go about setting it? You'll need to point the camera in the general direction of the lighting to set a custom white balance using something like an Expodisc. One thing that may have gone wrong is that the lights were cycling when you set it. So, you may need to slow down your shutter speed when taking the lighting temperature reading (i.e., set the camera to use shutter priority at around 1/60 second when setting it, in order to get a better average of the lighting when setting a custom white balance). |

Jim, I set the camera up in manual to get the exposure right, It was set to ISO 6400 and f2.8 and 1/320th of a second.
Any advice on ISO setting for the custom shot? I stood under the basket and shot back to the corner where i was going to sit thru the game. Thanks in advance Dave |

For setting the WB, I'd drop the ISO speed to a lower setting and slow down the shutter speed (i.e,, use something like 1/60 second) to make sure you're not catching the lights when they're cycling, which can happen at faster shutter speeds.
You'll want to point the camera towards the lighting (not the area where your subjects are) with an Expodisc. That may have been what went wrong (it was reading the reflected light from the area you pointed the camera at, versus measuring what it saw from lighting directly in the frame diffused by the Expodisc), and/or the faster shutter speeds caused it to catch the lighting while it was cycling, versus getting a good average reading. You'll find a .pdf instruction manual for Canon models at this link: http://www.expoimaging.com/MediaFile...ions/EN_31.pdf |
