Hi Aussie and welcome to the forums!!

Good framing, looks like you had some annoying light making difficult shadows on some of these, but you have done well. The only thing that slightly lets these down is there is no feeling for movement for the 2 shots taken from the side.

What settings were you using? Did you try any with slower shutter speeds?

Hi Mark... Sorry about that reply, I was a little 'happy' and had been to our annual Spring Racing Carnival Masquerade Ball... see new avatar.

The bike shots were taken with my D200, a VR 80 - 400 zoom shooting at 1/ 1000th at f/11 with an ISO 640 setting for the head on shots

And my 300mm prime f4 D shooting at 1/ 1000th at f/9 with an ISO 400 setting for the side shots...

It was the first day on the track for me and I was giving everything a try.... I am happy with the learning curve...

I'm very much in the same boat. Didn't shoot any motorsport until Sept this year and each time I am learning loads. I'm pleased to say that from one event the MG Car Club are using 6 of my shots in their monthly magazine which has a readership of 20+ thousand so I am very happy about that. Just waiting for the hits on my site to go up from the advertising included in there for me :-)

I am struck with a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 as my main long lens and a 1.4 and a 2x converter. Hope to get the Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 in the next few months which would be very cool!!!

Looking forward to seeing more of your shots soon.

Aussie, Nice job!Especially for just "messing" around with new gear! Im pretty certain once you have your gear down and can concentrate on the action itself, your work will be even better. Would love to see more.
