Tonight, I had to break in a new assistant on the first junior high game of the season, and I was more than pleased. The young lady had never shot a DSLR, or any camera with manual controls of any sort. Her first half shots with a 70-300 Tamron AF went into the trash bin (First quarter was poorly shot...second quarter, she had no chance because of light)

Changed to the MF 135mm f2.8 at halftime. For a first night shot, I thought this one was great.

(PP--crop to the right half of the frame....slight levels adjustment....USM....and noise reduction for 1600 ISO)

A couple of notes comparing these conditions compared to those under which I shot last weekend and posted. Consistently achieved 1/250th or more at wide open f2.8 and ISO 1600 without adding any Exposure Compensation. Stadium ligthing was significantly better.

Focus is slightly off on the kicker in this shot, but I thought the timing of the shot merited a post, particularly since it was her first night shooting.
