It wasperfect weatherfor opening day at our local rec soccer league. I shot more photos than any other single day before.
Here I am posting a few. I feel that I am losing too much detail especially compared to Graham's shots. Maybe too much USM. Any comments are welcome. 1. My son's first goal of the season. ![]() 2. One of ourfriends driving (uphill a little here). ![]() 3. 11-12 year olds ![]() 4. My best friend's son making his move ![]() 5. The 5 and 6 year olds are always fun. ![]() Thanks in advance for any comments. Andy |

Hello Andy, I can't view the EXIF so I don't know which lens you used with the converter?, I'm guessing at a 70 -200 2.8 zoom?. Looking at the pics they're not bad at all!
#1 (always a proud moment fora parent) ![]() #2 nice control of the exposure & sharpness. #3 needed a tighter crop & the players face lifting a little inpost edit!. #4 very nice, a little over sharpened (unless your new lens is a 300 f2.8 ,I stepped mine down to 3.5 ish in the sunlight& was gobsmacked at the quality). looking at his R foot it appears the shutter speed was down? given the lovely sunny conditions, this puzzles me? #5 Great pic & action ![]() |

Graham,
Thanks so much for the reply. Yes it was the 70-200mm with 1.4 extender on Canon XSi. I too was disappointed in the fuzzy foot in 5. Looking at the EXIF the shutter dropped to 1/800 for this one. I was having some trouble with the shutter speed using AV mode set at f/4. I kept noticing one in 5 or six were overexposed and the cause was the speed would just drop down some as low as1/200 which gave me a totally washed out white mess. Then I switched to Manual mode and pushed the speed up much higher and gradually increased ISO as the sun went down. I thought that AV would be the way to go but I was playing around alot with the AE/AF lock options trying to focus with the * button instead of autofoucing with the shutter button. I am still not sure best way to go. On the cropping, I am trying to decide the best way to crop for a 4x6 that will still allow other sizes like 5x7 and 8x10. But I agree with the two you mentioned about the tighter crop I will paly around a little more with that. So much to learn. Thanks again, Andy |
