Got a chance to get out and try the SAL70-400G today with a few surfing shots from the pier.

Exposure on all but the third shot is good. But, all of these photos have sharpness issues. There are several likely causes:
1) Are you using a TC? 2) Are these heavily cropped? 3) What were your shutter speeds? It looks like you may have motion blur in these - but the exif is stripped so I can't see the shutter speeds. 4) the resize. It may be a product of your resizing for web - if the originals are sharper to you than what you see when you look at the photos inside the post. |

No TC used on these John. They were cropped substantially and then resized for posting.
Shutter speeds were from 1/500 to 1/1000 and they are a lot sharper on my screen (22" HP) than in the posting. All of these were still sharp at 100% crop. Thanks for the response. Also, this was my first real outing with this lens and all were hand held. It was a good practice session.

I had to laugh at the 2nd to last shot as this is so like me trying to surf.
Following on from what John has said I think there must be something in the PP process as if they are sharp at 100% you have lost this with resizing and posting. Getting a good exposure is often a pain in surfing as the white water usually causes an under exposed shot so nice work with that. |

How can I post a photo and not lose the exif data?

Use a program to crop and resize your pics which doesn't strip the data...like...

Thanks, I have infanview. Will use that for future crop and downsizing.
