Two real quick questions....

1) What is the best shutter speed to shoot at when shooting indoor hockey without a flash - using a Nikon VR Lens (iso 1600)?

2) Using an board flash, is there anyway to overide the shutter speed and maintain flash Sync? Right now the fastest shutter speed is around 180 - far too slow for action photos. I would like to use a flash - but shoot at 640.....

Many thanks

I was asking about rink shooting a few months ago.I found the thread, maybe this will help.

I am getting better with my shots and also with post processing to sharpen things and get the coloring right. Rink lights really stink for photography.I still have a long way to go before I get anything worth sharing.

I'd love to see some of your pictures.

I doubt you can get by that flash synch speed problem.

The Nikon D50 syncs up to 1/500th. My Canon 20D only synchs to 1/250th which is a minor complaint.

Try using 1/500th. You'll probably have to raise your ISO to ISO800 or ISO1600.

I don't think you'd necessarily need to use flash.
