Shooting Soccer Games

Soccer season is starting and took the new xsi out. Used the 55-250 lens and put it in sports mode. Most of the pics came out good but wondering if there is a better way to shoot these pics?

I've just moved this to the sports section so you can get info from those who shoot sports. I also removed your signature as we don't allow advertising at Steve's in the posts.

I put together this thread http://forums.steves-digicams.com/sp...n-improve.html back at the start of 2008 that will probably give you a good basis of how to get some good shots. It's not all about settings but the techniques involved in making the photos more interesting.

So get out of sports mode and use Av or Manual if possible to start controlling your camera better than the middle of the road settings the sports mode will give. Shoot Servo focus and continuous drive, also I would only use the centre point for focus (you can select others for better framing, but I don't know your camera to be sure how good focus is with them).

I would say if most of the pictures came out good, you are doing something right. (depending on your definition of good). I am happy if I toss less than 60-70% of my sports shots. Agree with Mark1616 that shooting in manual or Av is best. Sports mode will fail if lighting is less than perfect.
