Well I'm at it again, shooting sports
![]() This time was at a ranch just outside of Alexandria where I had been invited along for the day to get some shots. This was my first time at show jumping but I thoroughly enjoyed myself, I'm sure the great weather helped in the enjoyment, although it did make for some harsh shadows. Shot with 7D and Canon 70-200mm f2.8. Any C&C appreciated. Mark 1 2 3 I'm not an expert in this game, but I don't think that is how you are meant to do it!!! 4 5 I'm still not an expert but again this doesn't look like good form. 6 7 8 I had to include this one as it looked like the horse decided to see what I was doing. |

i dont know anything about that sport either, but i am going to agree with you that #3 is most likely not how its done.
this set looks great mark. they look very sharp, and captured what appears to be important moments in the sport. i really like #6, i like the quartering to the viewer angle and the details in the horses musculature. |

Thanks Dustin. I'm still really impressed by the AF of the 7D and as usual the 70-200 didn't disappoint at all.
The muscles in these beasts are stunning especially when looking at the bigger images. Talking to the manager of the hotel where the ranch is, he says that some of the horses jumping in the event are over €1m (wouldn't say how much over). Unfortunately while I was there it wasn't the top classes, but I'm hoping to get back for another event and possibly be the official photographer this time. The poor official photography looked a bit jaded as he was running a D80 with a consumer level zoom so me walking around with white glass and a body with grip might have looked a bit intimidating. However, I was there for fun so won't be affecting his business, even though quite a few people asked if I was selling my work. |

Very nice series. Like the detail of the horse's muscle tones while they are in the air.

Those horses are such beautiful creatures... if you are going to photograph them, best to do it well... you have some excellent photos there. Absolutely beautiful colour and crisp photos at that.

This is really a nice set of shots Mark. I like #1 the best; it has a nice background with the horse charging into the picture. #3 . . . that got to hurt.

Thanks all, I'm totally pleased how well they've come out.
schent, I agree, 3 looks painful. I've no idea if they said anything about any injuries as it was all in Arabic. |
