Well, here are my first sports shots since moving from the UK to Egypt.
They were hosting an international Tae Kwon Do event 15 mins from where I live and a friend who is a TKD instructor asked if I wanted to go and take some snaps. Fortunately he knew the right people so managed to get me floor access. This was the first time shooting any form of martial art and I really had a lot to learn as had no clue about positioning, timing etc. Initially I shot from a seated position as I usually do for a lot of sports but found this didn't work so well as standing. I also shot a bit tight I think, so actually being further back might have helped. Shot with Canon 5DmkII with Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L IS - 1/800s, f2.8, ISO 6400 and Canon 7D with Canon 85mm f1.8 - 1/800s, f2, ISO 2500 (I know this looks like a 1/3 under exposed compared to the 5D but this was closer than at ISO3200 to the same exposure). Any insight for future events would be good. Thanks, Mark 1 ![]() 2 ![]() 3 ![]() 4 ![]() 5 ![]() 6 ![]() 7 ![]() 8 ![]() Last edited by Mark1616; Feb 13, 2010 at 1:40 PM. |

For a first attempt at the sport you did a nice job capturing the action.
For some reason photos 3 and 5 make me wish they had facez in the shot and not back of head....... I really like the others ones a lot. dave |

Thanks guys.
Do you think the framing is about right? I've not really cropped, apart from removing a bit of dead space if needed when not quite framed correctly, I felt the 7D with the 85 might have been a bit tight removing a lot of the leg they are standing on. |

I've just done a few non action shots of the coaches and fighters discussing whatever it is they discuss.

Mark1616, I really like the coach speaking to young lad in white and blue. The coach's face is so clear, full of such detail... you really make one feel as though he is there at this event... I was a little curious though about the guy on the right, did you purposely want him a little blurred?
All the best. Ned Jyväskylä, Finland |
