Yeah, soccer is definitely a tough one.
1. Straighten. Use landmarks like fences or buildings in the background as a guide. 2. As others here have said before (thanks JohnG and Mark) "Ball, Face, Opponent". Try to capture faces in all your action shots. A shot of someone running away is rarely very interesting. 3. Shoot tight, crop tighter. This is tough with soccer because the action is usually so far away, but try to get tight on the subject and keep the subject as close to the center of the shot as possible. 4. Use post-processing to liven up the shots by adjusting light levels, color, and sharpen to make your subject stand out.
