Always interesting to see something different. My initial reaction is these look very much over-cropped. Either that or you used a TC on a lens that really isn't sharp enough to take it. I don't shoot surf, but I just happened to see some great wider shots from Mavericks that showed the whole wave. Just a thought if you don't have enough lens to get in tight. Of course you need some pretty big waves for that concept to produce interesting shots.

Thanks for the input John, These were taken with the Sony 70-400 at 400mm, no TC, and yes heavily cropped to take out distractions.
I will re crop and re post. The shots are very clear on my screen.

These are out of camera, resized for posting.
Still not nearly as sharp as what I see here.

try re-sizing them so long side is only 800. I believe I read somewhere here if you have too large an image the site software automatically resizes it again. Give it a go and see if that changes things.

These are 800x600 and they look terrible.

How are you resizing them - that can make a difference? Here is a zoomed area of your second image above resized to 50% with a bilinear algorithm on left and a bicubic algorithm on the right:

I like the second set picture #2 in terms of cropping. I agree they are a tad blurry but very cool, I would love to get out and take some surf shots.

I opened the pics in fastone and resized them to 800x600.

Bilinear/bicubic are the two options in Paintshop Pro. Maybe Fastone has something similar or is just defaulting to something like the one on the left. I've heard other people say Irfanview is good for resizing so you could try that.
