Hi Ive just come back from a xmas tournament and grabbed a few shots in between games. i took your advice from last time and upped the iso to 400 and shutter speed to 250th i think there the best ive taken but i think there too noisy, they was a little dark too so i lightened them using levels and converted to b&w.

Nice work Darren... great action shots - sharp and lots of action!
I like number 6 the best i think! The BnW has worked really well with the noise... It gives the shots pleanty of atmosphere, which colour wouldn't have imho. Tried shooting some rugby league for the first time a couple of weeks ago myself and like you had to crank the ISO up to get anything like a decent shutter speed with the dull English weather, so was left with pics with really bad noise that looked crap tbh... convert it to BnW though and it looks a different pic... (this was the only half decent one) Anyway, great shots mate, look forward to seeing some more of your stuff. |

looks like b&w saved the day. do you think a flash would help, how far would it reach into the court. its a sigma and a little heavy for me so i havent tried it.

Not sure tbh, I don't know much about flash photography as I've never used anything beyond onboard flash, and am never particularly keen on the light flash gives to a photo or the silhouette shadows you can get anyway... (though I guess thats because I've never used it properly)
I've never seen pro-sports photographers use flash either, and on my D70 it slows my burst mode right down... but like I say I've never really tried to get to grips with it so I'm probably not the best person to comment on that. Give it a try if you want! If you're shooting digital it aint gonna cost you anything :-) |
