They're a little dark.
Perhaps if you picked a higher ISO (sensitivity) like ISO800 or ISO1600 your shots will look brighter. What model of camera are you using? Terry |

Nikon D70 w/ 18-70 kit lense SB-800 flash and ISO200. These older gyms are dark and the matts are darkas well. I do, however, get to set on the matts. Will a flash diffuser help any or just raise my ISO? Anyadvice will be appreciated.

I'd probably set my ISO to 800 or 1600.
That will brighten up the image by 2-3 stops. Then just use a little fill flash. -- Terry |

Here's an example in a low lighted indoor track situation.
I shot it at ISO3200, 1/500th a second, using a 50mm F1.4 Canon lens, no flash. With a little noise reduction, this photo would clean up even better. -- Terry |

Personally, I didn't find the pics too dark, especially the last one. I was noticing more the loose cropping. Is the 18-70 zoomed in all the way on these pics? If so, I would suggest picking up one of the cheap 70-300 zooms (i.e. Sigma) for about $200 and zooming in. Just keep in mind those cheap zooms won't focus overly fast, especially with the D70 (yes, I say that based on personal experience). Bump up the ISO as Terry suggested, then balance that by dialing back the flash a bit. What shutter speeds and aperature settings are you using?

I was shooting sutter priority (1/320) the f-stop at 4.5 (largest) the sb-800 at ittl. I have a Sigma 70-200 but, I set on the matt and I fell that the 70 part will be to strong because the wrestlersget really close, sometimes to close. What I would like to have isa zoom lense in the range of 24-135 or there about. Getting that ok'ed by theBOSS is out of the question right now.
Thanks for you help guys. I'll try the suggestions the next match I get to go to. |
