It all depends on your needs really. I liked both models, with each being a very capable camera. However, the Canon has a slight advantage in the zoom category with a 35x lens compared to 24x on the FZ100. On the other hand, the FZ100 has an external mic input for better audio during video recording (which some will appreciate). I'd read each of our reviews, look at the samples, and then decide for yourself which fits your needs and expectations best.

Hope this helps.

The only thing lacking on my FZ35 is quality of indoor low-light pictures. Which do you think would do a better job?

None of the above. At the very least I would recommend something at the LX5 level. After that you move into cameras with interchangeable lenses.

The LX 5 only has 3.8x optical zoom....are you suggesting I use the 5 indoors and my FZ35 outside?

I'm suggesting that you need a bigger sensor and brighter lens when you are indoors, particularly for flash-free photography. Indoors, the light is, on average, 200x less than the light provided by the ambient sunlight outdoors. While the LX5 isn't ideal for the job, it will do a far better job indoors w/ flash-free pics than any of the aforementioned bridge cameras.

I think it all depends on what you want to shoot. If you want LOADS of zoom the SX30IS would be a good choice. Again even if you hit 25x of that zoom you're gonna be needing a tripod. So, I think the FZ100 would be a good choice.

Thanks for your input. I'm actually watching Sarah Joyce's feedback on her "new" FZ 40. Look's very positive so far ........
