I'm not sure I'd criticize Canon for the sensor size chosen on this camera- after all, a 1/2.3" sensor is still standard issue for a "bridge/superzoom"- save a couple of Fuji's... and different menu's relative to shooting mode used is also pretty standard..!!
An "Only" 2.8" screen- dreadful indeed when compared to the usual whopping 3"...
The viewfinder could have/should have been of a higher resolution however- and no USB cable.... what's that all about...!!??
I'm intrigued by the "busy" display you mention... was this in shot to shot situations,or after selective bursts...?
I'm surprised you chose not to investigate/use RAW capture, or indeed display a couple on the images page... especially as this is unique for an "SX" model...

From what I've seen, the optics do a pretty impressive job given the crazy range on offer- as does the stabilizer. The AF speed allegedly is up on the SX40- and if the overall IQ is as good as the model it replaces, then I'd give it the thumbs up...

Simon,

Yes, the "busy" display was experienced in shot to shot situations.

As for your RAW comments. We've added some new photos to the sample photos page; a JPEG out of the camera and a converted RAW of the same subject (using Canon's DPP for the conversion), along with a link to the .CR2 RAW image file for download.

Thanks for your comments, they are always appreciated!

Couldn't you add RAW file with a greater DOF...lol...!!
For the record, the web freebie "Raw Therapee" opens up the RAW file on the SX50...
