Like many of Rokinon/Samyang lenses, the Nikon version DOES have electronic communication with the camera and automatically stops down the aperture. It simply doesn't autofocus. Plus the EXIF info stored with the images contains all the relevant lens info (focal length/max aperture/working aperture/shutter duration etc).
