OK folks, I'm a newbee so don't beat me up too bad. I have a 30' x 20' studio. I am thinking about using AB800's for my flashes andpair of Interfit 1000's with softboxes for mymodelling lights. Am I headed in the right direction? The two cameras that I have are NikonN90S and the new Nikon D70.

Studio size is nice, AB's are good, SoftBoxes for the AB's are good.

The AB's have modeling lights in them so no need for the interfits.

How is your celling height? that is where I ran into trouble.

The Ceiling is 14' high. The AB800's only have a 100 watt light. The reason I was thinking about the interfit 1000's, was the ability to get more intimate lighting. Can I do that with only 100 watts?

14feet nice, I got stuck with about 7 and that is just not enough.

The modeling lights in a strobe are there to let you see where the main strobe light will hit, and give you an idea of what the lighting ratios will look like. They are not used for shooting the actual picture.

The Interfits 1000 are 1000watt halogen lights, what is commonly referred as Hot Lights. Theyareused to shoot by, and also heat and cook your subjects :-)You usually don't see hot-lights and soft-boxes used together. Fire comes to mind.

It is possible to use strobes and hot-lights together. You should also be looking for a flash meter.

Hunt out the threads on lighting by Kalipso, Castledude and Frank Doorhof, most of what you need to know are covered in their lighting threads.
