Please watch out for cheap units. The ones that I purchased years ago went out of business. When I was ready to purchase aftermarket add-ons there was no one that had the "speed rings". These attach the softbox to the strobe. Before you buy find out what accessories you can get for it (3rd party)

Hi
Did you use 3D matrix or spot metering for this portret. I feel the face is litlebit washout. Also reflection from lether jacket is to atractive. Did you use difuser box for main light? I am starting with portrets too, so I am interested in. Thanks |

Softboxes tend to be a lot bigger than umbrellas, so if your space is limited, umbrellas might be the better way to go.
Softboxes also tend to be more difficult to adjust (size is a factor) and setup (assemble), but also tend to produce a softer light than umbrellas. For a good reliable studio strobe and all the accessories, you might want to look at the offerings at Alien Bees or White Lightning (both manufactured by the same company). I have been using White Lightning for the better part of 20 years and I can still get spare parts for my old units. |

Or maybe go with an octabox, sort of a cross between an umbrella and a softbox.

Hi' hughesinNC and good evening from Edinburgh
I am getting 'unknown' when I type in the part nr. and spec. you quote for your Flash Trigger. If you still have the packaging, could you give me the number on the box??? alternatively can you give me only the trigger part nr. I emailed ebay in USA with the ebay ref. you quote, but all they give in reply is 'this auction has ended' You appear to be the only person who has responded to my query, and who is using a CP8800 and an xxxx Flash Trigger. i hope you understand my prob. and i would apologise in advance for any trouble. regards. jimb |
