I have purchased a secondhand Portaflash 336VM unit but the modeling light is blown and the unit will not fire with the test button, will the modeling light affect the main unit or is there something deeper wrong?

When you plug the flash in does the ready light comes on? If it doesn't - check the fuse on the back of the flash.

Don't remember and the flash is at home and I'm at the office, but imho 3A would be safe enough. I'll check it later when I get home.

PS. There is another fuse in the UK plug I think - it might be a good idea to check it as well.
