Default Where can I learn more abt. lighting?

Hi! I am having a very difficult time finding a site which educates me about basic studio equipment and its purposes. Stuff like, what is a softbox, umbrella, or panel and which would be best for me? Most sites are selling this stuff and there's not a lot of actual information. I requested some books at my local library, but I have to wait to get them in.

I'm basically interested in (eventually) setting up a very basic, small home studio. I need to learn about what type of setup would be best for me (i.e., 2 lights--how many watts do I need?, etc.). I did find a site: lightingmagic.com, but he sells the stuff, too. Any of you know of a good website (photo.net is down right now, so I haven't been able to check them out, I searched google and this forum). Thanks!

Or try TableTop Studio
and digging into the NYIP site can turn up a bit of stuff.

Excellent! Thanks! I must have typed in some ineffective keywords, as I only found 2 on Kalypso's list.
