I bought a C-8080 and have a good Canon speedlight 299T flash. How compatible are they? Is the trigger voltage OK?

The Canon 'T' series are OK, it's only their 'A' series which are slighly higher. IMO single digit # measurements are fine...

:?I guess it would be too much to expect the PROGRAM mode to work. Is it all manual? Thanks for your answer!

It won't tell your C-8080 to set the shutter/aperture correctly, so I guess no "Program" mode; However the flash can still be set to Auto (F. NO. SET)... Just set the C-8080 to 1/60s and match the camera's aperture manually to the flash!

This is minor though: I've set my 10D on manual to use an older Metz 45CT-5 for example the same way using the flash built-in "Auto" mode instead. Works great, same with your 299T, the flash will adjust its output correctly with its front sensor instead of using the camera's: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography...Speedlite299T/

... You know what?
I actually prefer this way much better than all this pre-flash business with newer digital cameras :-):-):-)
BTW watchout for the zoom head on the head when you decide to go wide
