I live and work ina part of the country where there are lots and lots of spiders. Just about every day, I find some neat new web in an interesting place. I've tried taking pics of them with my Fuji 5100, and they didn't show up. So I tried photographing against a piece of black cardboard, and still no luck. Any tips? :?
Thanks! |

Try using a hand plant sprayer to mist the web. Also try a dark background, and perhaps a flash. Cooking oil in a spray can might work, though you might not want to use it in some places.

Back lighting against a dark background usually brings them out.

Blow some talc. powder all over the web, then use a peice of black cardboard for the back ground. Water may work also.
NOTE: Make sure the web is not being used by the spider anymore.... Brad |

I have found, that if there is something holding the web up, like a stick, or bush or whatever,...I can get the AF to lock in on that, then move to the web and it shows up pretty good. The object to lock on needs to be as near to the web as possible.

Like Bill said the best way to bring the web out is to get a spray bottle with water and mist the web with water. That is what I did on this photo. The web was occupided at the time. So you have to be careful and not make them mad.
