I was wondering how to use bulb exposure to take star trails photo?? It takes about 10 mins but I can't imagine holding shutter button for that long without causing camera shake on tripod. Or should I use cable release and hold cable button for that long?? any help apprieciated.

you didn't mention what type of camera you have, but I'massuming you have a bulb setting. On the 20D the exposure lasts as long as you hold the shutter button down. Now as you said it is very difficult to keep the camera steady with your finger on the shutter button. The cable release I have you can press the button and it can slide up and lock in the pressed position. A good sturdy tripod is also a must.
