this little post got me to thinking about cheap ways i can improve my flash photography. i am struggling with pictures that although nicely exposed, make whoever i'm photographing look like they have sunken in eyeballs - due to the shadows being cast when bouncing the flash off the ceiling.
after putting my thinking cap on, i rubber banded awhite index card onto the back of my flash. presto! a bit better results. i find it works bestwhen the subject is in the sweet spot - about 6 or 7 feet away... -looks really really ghetto (because it is :-)) but hey, it works! ~aloha~ |

mahalo kalypso!
i sat and watched all three videos; it was pretty cool. makes me want to sell my 3600 hs-d for the 5600 hs-d so i can swivel. i wanted him to explain the idea behind swiveling the flash "length wise".... less reflective surface area? this REALLY makes my index card look ghetto..... excuse me while i dig through my wife's crafting room looking for that foamy material :G ~aloha~ |

ben franklin craft stores has them too. big sheet for 99cents. they had those sheets in 2mm and 3mm. i went with the 2mm as it was a little less stiff. i cut one out of cardstock yesterday and spent the afternoon playing around with it. flash photography was always a struggle for me and my camera - this helps to make more of my pictures keepers.

I have the Gary Fong Lightsphere II, but for a second flash I also built this imitation using food containers I got from the 100 yen store; total cost: about US $1.62. I welded the two bowls together using epoxy glue and a soldering iron. Works great!
