I thought it was either Benjamin Franklin or Mark Twain that came up with that plan.

I do not understand the very existence of this thread. What has English got to do with photography?

Kalypso,
As a resident of the colonies, you'll be aware that your fellow countrymen started the process you describe long ago. It hasn't proceeded quite as fast as your schedule (that's shedule...) suggests, but if you can get the Koka Kola Kumpny to spread the word worldwide, I'm sure it will catch on in no time. I think the French think that French is the "official" language of the EU. The Welsh would like it to be Welsh. These two languages have in common their preference for adopting English words instead of inventing new ones, so whichever is right it won't make much difference in the long run. Estonian seems safe. Meanwhile, we in the UK are busy replacing Shakespeare's tongue with that of the SMS text message. The average A-level script (that's the exam students take atage eighteen) can now be compressed into one and a half lines with no loss of meaning. Great Scott! It's good to be old enough to qualify as a bona fide grumpy old man... fenlander  |
