I want to get a shot of a match being lit, any Ideas for what would be the best settings on a digital rebel?

You probably want to set white balance to incandescent or the picture might come out too red. You'll need to experiment but I am fairly sure that auto WB will not give satisfactory results.

Try setting up the camera while shooting a lit candle. You should be fairly close (keeping in mind that the initial "flare" caused by the match lighting will be somewhat brighter).

This is a little past the match stage, perhaps these settings will be useful. It was shot in RAW mode on a tirpod. I kept the white balance as is. Taken with a DR, though I think that the lens and ISO would more determine the settings.

Oh forgot to add it was taken at iso 100,full auto(p) setting, fill flash -1.5.
No idea where the exif went, so no clue as to what the camera picked for F-stop and shutter speed, but it seemed to get the metering right. Peter. |
