I have just pumped up the resolution on my PC screen ( I didn't know I could do this until recently) and found to my amazement that my photo's stored in my P S elements folder look altogether sharper and brighter than the same pics viewed through My Pictures.
Does anyone know whats going on??

Could be compression that's happening in the my pictures previews. When you are looking at them in My Pictures and you click on the button that zooms them in to 100% do they still look softer?

I've just checked and MPs version is softer at all sizes compared with PSEs folder. It doesn't seem to make sense to me as I thought that PSE just pulled the images in from M Pics, because if I delete an image in My Pics PSE can no longer find it. I am comparing untouched out of the camera images so no sharpening has been applied except in camera.I dont know whether it means anything but the files sizes are indentical in both MP and PSE.

Can you take a screen shot of a side by side where we can clearly see this phenomenon at work?

Unfortunately my posting of pics has not been that good I never seem to get the web pic as good as the one on my pc plus when I resize I put them into a folder in my pics and upload them from there . I dont think I can upload direct from PSE.

Are you opening the pictures in both folders with PSE, or do you just click 'open' ?
If the latter, check the file associations. You may be set to open in Windows photo viewer. If pics in both folders are being opened with PSE, and all pictures are straight from the camera, there would seem to be something else going on. Maybe PSE is applying some 'phantom processing' or is compensating for the increased resolution. BTW, what type of monitor are you using, what did you change the resolution from and to, and what is the native resolution of the monitor? Changing resolution on LCDs away from its native resolution is not generally recommended. brian |

I can upload pics from My Pics or a folder I created called Web pics but I cant upload from Photoshop Elements without first downsizing and placing the photo into one of those folders.
In which case the object of the excersize would be lost. Maybe I'm missing something, which is probably the case but I have had to teach myself what I'm doing on my pc since I retired ten years ago.
