I'm recommending article which I found: http://range.wordpress.com/2006/07/15/modern-hdr-photography-a-how-to-or-saturday-morning-relaxation/

At first there is about modern HDR photography, but at the end of article there is instruction how to made HDR photography step by step.

P.S. I'm sorry for my English. I'm still trying to learn it.

I get good results with with bracketing from -2 to +2 ev, just find the correct exposure then bracket from there, I use photomatix pro plugin. The merged image does require some editing. The pictures come out quite soft with noticable noise so a little sharpening and noise reduction is required.I usually apply a dode & burn layer to bring out details.
