hi jeanette,

if you are going to take pics of fireworks, you really need a tripod. because you want the shutter to stay open longer, and usually if you do handheld, you will shake. now if you can set the camera on top of your car, or some thing so that you can angle it to get the fireworks in position, that helps, but not a cure all. i am not familiar with the cannon g7, but if you have a big aperture lens ex: 2.8 is larger than 3.5 then use aperture mode and use the biggest (smallest #) setting, at least you will get very sharp pics with little shake! oh and don't use a high iso setting 200-400 is all you really need! good luck, john

no tripod...no chance

no one can hold a camera still for length of time needed...its possible upto 1/15th second but below that its slim

to get a good firework burst u need a couple of seconds minimum

sorry to back up the bad news

Gary
