Hello,

I'm going to a horse show (I think it is a western style)tommorrow that my cousin is riding (or showing??)in. I'm going there to take some pictures of her riding for her mom. I've never taken any horse pictures before. Does anybody have some tips or hints of what kind of shots I should take?

My equipment is as follows:

canon drebel

28-128mm IS lens

75-300mm lens

kits lens with drebel

canon 420ex flash

tripod

Thanks a bunch

Well, I haven't taken horse pictures before, but here's a few things to keep in mind.

- Horses are moving so maybe set your camera shutter priority, and at least 1/500th or may 1/1000th shutter speed.

- Take both lenses but probably 75-300 lens is your best bet.

- I wouldnt bother with a tripod. Just move around and try to get the best shots you can get. Don't stay fixed in one place.

- A monopod is better than a tripod in your situtation.

- I'm not sure if they would let you use a flash. Might scare the horses. Check first.

Good luck!

Hi,

CHECK FIRST before you use a flash ! ! ! !

I own a horse and when I take his picture with a flash, he runs away fast - REALLY FAST ! ! ! Not very safe if you're riding him!

At riding stables I've taken pictures at, they do not allow flashes for that reason.
