DPR-M700 Firmware

Anybody, had any information about the firmware upgrade for the Toshiba DPR-M700.

By what I saw on the Japanese Toshiba web page, they fixed the Manual Focus and some other things.

The page is in Japanese and I know french and a little bit of english.

It seem that the Firmware on the camera in the USA and Canada is version 1.01.

The new Firmware in Japan is version 1.10

Concerning the FIrmware of the Toshiba PDR-M700,

Does anybody know the way to extract and save the Firmware that is in the camera.

In the book they explain how to insert (upgrade) the Firmware but do they explain how to save or extract the firmware, in other words to make a backup of the firmware.

I have just received an E-Mail from Toshiba Imaging Systems Division Service Department, telling me that the firmware upgrade version 1.10A will be available on their web site in about one week.

Toshiba pdr-m700 firmware 1.10E

Hi to all... if you want the firmware upgrade to 1.10E version you can download it at:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...%2Findex_j.htm

So you can read in english

Hi!!!

JimK Nov 25, 2003 2:17 PM

I just checked out the above listed site - that's English??
It mentions a 1.04 firmware - my camera is 1.01A. Where do I find the 1.04? And what did it do?
Has anyone downloaded and installed the 1.10A upgrade from the japanese site? Are the camera menus still in English after the upgrade?

To Antopoli, Lamouma

Antopoli, Lamouma -
First, thanks for the firmware download info.
Since both of you are obviously M700 owners can you tell me how your flash is performing? I am on my second M700 - the first was recalled for the power supply problem. Both of them have very poor flash performance so I'm thinking it's the M700 in general and not just a bad camera. Pictures taken with flash are actually darker by at least 2 f. stops than the same picture without flash. I have been trying to get some support from Toshiba for almost a month and a half but it seems their support people only know how to read from checklists and don't really know the camera. One actually offered to send me tips on taking better flash pictures! :x
Another said I should use their upgrade/exchange and get another M700 but I don't think I should have to pay for their problem.
Any thoughts??

Thank to Antopoli, the web adress to get firmware 1.10 for the PDR-M700, is a translation script of the Toshiba Japanese Web page.

The translation is not that good, but at least you can understand a little bit more than in japanese.

The firmware that you can download is version 1.10A and it is working very nicely.

What I really like is the fact that the focus sensitivity change accordingly to the zoom factor.

What I mean is let say your zoom is set to wide then the focus range from macro to 0.2 meter is quite large and the the range from 0.2 to 3 meters is quite small then from 3 meters to infinity is almost inexistant.

Infinity__3m____0.2_______________Macro

If your zoom is set to Tele then the focus range from macro to 0.8 meter is quite small then from 0.8 to 1.5 meter is about half way then it goes to 5 meters at about 3/4 of the scale then it goes to the end for infinity.

Infinity___5m_______1.5___________0.8__Macro

An other nice thing is you can set your icons a little bit larger on the screen.

If I have a little bit of time I'll try to write a procedure on how to upgrade your firmware on the PDR-M700 in plain english of if you prefer I'll try my best.
