Four days before my wedding (and the honeymoon during which I'd like to take some pictures) my 5300 has had a meltdown. When I turn the power on in the normal Auto Photography mode, the start-up screen comes on the LCD, the camera makes a whirring noise as if the shutter is going to open...and then it does it all again: the start-up image flashes up, the camera whirs but the shutter doesn't open...over and over again.
I can turn the camera on in set-up mode and see the basic set-up choices. I have tried resetting the system, reformatting the card, and putting a new card in. The firmware is up-to-date, and good thing, too, since my computer is not "seeing" the camera as it usually does when connected by USB.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem or a solution to try? Is there any other way to reset the system? The Toshiba website doesn't even offer support for the 5300--grrr! Thanks for any help!
