I called the 800 number for toshiba. When I mentioned the Japanese firmware upgrade they acted like they didn't know what i was talking about. So they were no help at all. I'm afraid that the menu would be converted to Japanese or worse if I install it.

Default Firmware Upgrade

To awnser Martom, I have just upgrade my firmware on my PDR-M700 with version 1.10A.

It work better with this version, the Flash work very well and for the menu, let me tell you that you can have it in English just as the original version 1.01 or 1.04.

Imagine on my camera I use the french language, every thing is OK.

Default Firmware Upgrade ver. 1.10A

I have downloaded the Firmware 1.10A from the Japanese web site. The improvements are very significative.

The Manual Focus work great. You have to use the W and T buttons to adjust the Focus. By pressing the shutter button half way and releasing it the function of the W and T buttons return to the Zoom function. Ever time you push the shutter button half way the function toggle from Focus to Zoom and from Zoom to Focus.

An other great thing is you can adjust the size of the icons on the LCD screens. To do so you have to go in the Basic Set Up Menu, then to Customize then to Icon Size (it is new)

Also, when you are in Play Back mode and looking at a list of images, the green line around the selected image is thicker.

To get a copy of the firmware 1.10A you have to go to the Toshiba Japanese web page, the adress is :

http://www.toshiba.co.jp%2Fmobileav%...2Fm700_110.exe

I have written a small procedure on how to upgrade your Firmware on your PDR-M700. It is in plain english and simple to follow.

If you need it to upgrade your Firmware, drop me a note and I will be please to e-mail it to you.

For the PDR-M700 Firmware upgrade, you need the bin file from Toshiba.

The file for Windows XP platform is "m700_110.exe".

The Web link to get it is:

http://www.toshiba.co.jp/mobileav/ca...0/m700_110.exe

The file for McIntoshplatform is "PDR_M700.bin.sea.hqx".

The Web link to get it is:

Thanks for the procedure. I just upgraded my camera following your procedure and everything went just as you said. I think it is taking better pictures! I noticed a new flashing green frame around the thumbnails in the playback mode. Also there is a manual focus option Focus mode. I'm not sure what else the upgrade does. I guess we need a Japanese interpreter for the specifics from the website. Still learning....

Default firmware 1.10A upgrade

Today i've upgraded the firmware to 1.10A (thanks Lamouna for the tips), It all went without a problem.
The manual focus is really great. It increases the usebility of the camera a lot.

Default Firmware Upgrade. 1.10a or 1.10e or US or Japan ???

Hello,

I was just reviewing this message board and have become a little confused.

There is a mention of version 1.10a and a 1.10e ?
Also,,, a USA or Japanese version ?

Now,, I have already received the 1.10a upgrade from the Toshiba USA support. My concern is that the Japanese version is different and maybe better ?? Can someone clear up my confusion ??

I have been struggleing with the purple hues in the upper corner for 16 second night time exposures. The 1.10a firmware does not remedy this problem. I was wondering if the japan version repaired this problem ??
