Default Toshiba IR remote control

I have a PDR3300 and am having problems using the IR remote. The only way I can get it to work is to set the automatic timer to two seconds. Any suggestions? The manual states that the remote should operate as a shutter release when the camera is in capture mode. What is capture mode?

Also... are you annoyed by the auto off timer? Try holding down the display button as you turn the camera on.

Capture means the mode you take pictures.
For the remote control, there is nothing wrong with your camera, you must set the timer before using the remote. Set it to 2 seconds and then you can use the remote to take as many shots as you like without resetting the timer.
