"Aluminum Overcast" B17

She was visiting Cincinnati this weekend as part of the Lunken Airport Aviation Days celebration. It was nice to get up close to photograph her and inhale the exhaust fumes:). Nikon D90 + Tamron 18-270mm VC.

Very impressive. I find the houses near the top of the first shot a bit distracting so I think I would've cropped those out, but that's just me. It really is an awesome picture. The other two are great just the way they are.

...very nice images Jehan of my favorite B-17. The plane was at our airport (Arlington, TX) in the fall of 2008 and again 2009, I did the interior at the last fly-in. I would like to see all your photos of her, do you have a gallery?

Mine are here... http://bobbrennan.smugmug.com/Photog...08905218_DLk6i

Thanks eveyone for your comments.

Bob, these one I posted are about thr best from my series. Unfortuantely, the weather was overcast (isn't it always when I attend an airshow?:p) and when the sun did come out, I found myself to be on the back lit side of the aircraft.

I took a look at your gallery...wow...you're shots are great and looks like you had a picture perfect day.

I would have loved to have taken some pictures of her landing and taking off, but the runway in use was beyond the reach of my zoom. The best I got was when she taxied to the ramp for pick-up/drop of riders.

....too bad for your day, ours were in November each year and the sky was good. I was there both days in '08 and just the final day in '09. The fellow in the photos with the B-17 jacket was then president of EAA34 chapter here in Arlington, he gave me a boarding pass so I could shoot the interior in exchange for some photos to be used in some chapter literature. Fun time, the plane has not been back to Arlington since.

Jehan,

This is a great picture. You can come back to it many times and still discover new things

Thanks T, I'm glad that you appreciated the finer details of the image over and above the aircraft...i.e the runway marker, the warning sign, the mansions on the hill to name a few.

If you ever wonder whether or not you are prone to airsickness, take a ride in the tail gunner's position. I spent many flights in B-29's there: Very bad in turbulence. Your last photo brought back some memories. Nice job of capturing the essence of that old workhorse.
