Default First shot with the nikon p1000, landing action

Hi all, first outing with a new toy.. Came in yesterday and happy with it! Initial thought is that it really is a big improvement over the p900; still difficulty to auto-focus at the tele end, so manual focus is the safe way to go.
Video was one of my concerns. The p900 has both very bad audio and video quality. So, p1000.. On board mic quality is still very bad but fortunately they included a mic port and the processing of that signal is fine at first glance. Some hiss is present though, a powered mic might work better, will test that later. 4k video quality seems good as well, but it will require more testing / comparing to other 4k to judge it proper. Also the zoom is sufficiently slow to get nice pulls, but it might be too slow for some action during video. In photo mode the zoom is quite fast. It's impossible to stabilize the thing though. The lens is huge, heavy and protrudes to a galaxy far away! Even on a decent video head with sliding plate there's no mid-point where it will balance in all focal lengths. This is a problem because especially at the tele end the thing must be steady. Any force applied to counteract the pull of gravity will result in jitter. That said, even the slightest wind will work the lens enough to cause jitter. This is also a challenge when manual focusing. It's fun to have 3000mm equivalent focal length available but obviously it's a sensitive thing. But it is, it really is nuts. Where I was alongside one runway someone came to ask about an inbound a380 flight, if it was to land on this runway. I couldn't tell, but when the thing arrived it landed as far away as it could from my location. But at 8 km distance it's almost fills in the frame! Just a little difficult to get a jitter-free slow pan..

The raw files can’t be processed by adobe yet, hopefully they’ll come with a lightroom/camera raw update soon.

City hopper landing roll. Distance to bird is 600m. Camera jpg edited in lightroom cc. More photos to follow later.
Happy Shooting! GB
