Thunder Over Louisville!

Cloudy, drizzling, COLD day on the flight line but I attended the military plane exhibition that precedes the air show for Thunder Over Louisville. It's an annual event that helps hype the Kentucky Derby in two weeks. The airshow culminates in one of the world's largest (no joke) pyrotechnic displays. Not just anyone can get on the airfield but, I know Charlie. He flies C-130s out of this airfield and he got me and my friends in. BTW, Charlie will be heading over for his FOURTH mission to Afghanistan.

Here's Charlie with a couple of my buds.

Promo card for the F-22 Raptor. There were two on display.

Most of the aircraft lined both sides of one of the taxiways. The F-22 were the only aircraft in a hangar.

The aircraft go from old to the latest & greatest.

Hey Gary,

I was in L'ville on Friday for some photography during the practice run. Wanted to avoid the crowds during the actual show on Sat. Was at the landing in front of the Galt House from about 10:30 AM till 4:00 PM. It was a tough shoot...expecially the F22--I was not nearly as fast. When I get my images processed, I'll post them in a seperate thread. I did not think to drop you a line ahead of time and let you know that I was going to be there.

Nice images...too bad about the weather!

By the way, how do I get to be frends with Charlie...You lucky dog!!! Thank Charlie for his service on behalf of all of us!

Had you contacted me, you could have gone with us Jehan. Get in touch with me next year and I'll get you in.

Gary,

I noticed the Harriers in the background. They did not practice on Friday. I imagine they'd be cool to photograph since part of their demonstration would be hovering and slow flight. Did you make it to the actual airshow?

I didn't make it to the airshow, Jehan. I did it twice when we first moved to Louisville and I won't make that mistake a third time. The crowd that attends it is not the typical airshow crowd. Lots of loud drunks with their vile children. I would assume they did fly on Saturday. I'll ask Charlie.
