The cloistered abbey was converted intoa fine country house, and newly restored botanical garden. The country house created out of a medieval abbey was the home of Willam Henry Fox Talbot, a pioneer of photography.

Alex, are you watching the dramatisation ofElizabeth Gaskell's 'Cranford' on Sundays, 9pm, BBC1? As you may have noticed from a poster in the pub window, it was filmed in Lacock. The inhabitants I spoke to were rather weary of the regular disruptions from film crews over the years.
I'm sure it will cross the pond for all the US membersbefore long. |
