I have recently bought the 200/400 Nikkor, and since I will be walking around a lot during the 24 hr motor race need a monopod. Tripods I know, but have never owned a monopod. I am using a D70 with the lens, plus other lenses of course, but for this particular one need some advice from your good selves as a good all round purchase.

Look forward to seeing your posts. Thankyou

I use the Manfrotto 679 for Soccer games, Track and Field meets, and Indy races when I go. I like it...there's not much to dislike really with a monopod. The 679 weighs about a pound and a half (.6 kg) and can hold over 20 (9.5 kg). It comes in black and chrome and extends up to 62" (157cm) and folds down to 24" (61 cm). I think out of the monopods available, it's the best for the money. Get a Manfrotto or a Gitzo...you'll be happy.

Have you ever looked at a trekpod? These are really cool, they are a monopod that is a walking staff and it very easily and quickly turns into a tripod. Its a little heavy but works great. Have a look and see what you think, http://www.trek-tech.com
