Well I took the plunge! I sold my 3 way Manfrotto 8080rc 4 and replaced it with the Manfrotto 410 junior geared head.

I love it!

Night before last, I went outside to shoot some night photos with the moon in the background. My 3-way drove me crazy. I am sure it's a great head for the people who understand how to work it. So I am not blaming the 3-way head. I blame me, the unskilled photographer.

However, my frustration was quite real. I found out that I could actually make micro adjustments easier by adjusting the tripod legs!! That can't be right!

Then I got out the 410 geared head. It has both macro and micro adjustments. You twist the macro knob and make large changes easily. Then you use the micro knobs to make small changes quickly. And once you make the change, you take your hand off the knob and the camera stays EXACTLY where it was when you took your hands off the camera!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot wait to get to use it for real!

Thanks to everyone who shared their knowledge and experience with me on this!!

Faithfully yours,
