I have an old Bogen 3001 tripod that I have had for 20 years. It came with a 3160 head. I would like to upgrade to a ball head. Does anyone know if I can put a newer head on this tripod?

Morning,
I just acquired an old 3001 Pro a couple of months ago. It came with a 486RC2 ballhead. This was a second tripod for me - for my second camera body, so I am trying to keep the expenses down, by using this head - and possibly just replacing the clamp - converting it over to arca swiss rather than RC2. So yes, it can be done, and I have seen other heads on the 3001. By the way. I find that personal preference play a big part in ball heads. Personally I do not like the 486RC2, as its a single lever to rotate and level it. It also takes me 3 hands to work the clamp, hold the camera and release the safety. ![]() Last edited by interested_observer; Sep 1, 2010 at 7:03 AM. |

after much researching and figuring how to get the old head off, I ordered a Flashpoint F 4 from Adorama. Can't wait til it gets here.

Interesting choice. Never heard of them, but great price for what looks like a pretty good ballhead, at least from the reviews. Let us know how it works out.
