I recently ordered a Gitzo 1325 w/RRS head but wonder if there is not small CF tripod with maybe 4 smaller sections that would enable the collapsed size to be a bit smaller for packing or for sticking into the pouch of a backpack?

I believe the collapsed size of the 1325 is like 26 inches or so. The backpack I currently use is a Tamrac Expedition 5 and when I try to put my Gitz monopod in that teeny little pouch, it actually becomes dangerous since it extends way past the top of the backpack. If I get something that is maybe 16 or 17 inches long it would be far more travel friendly.

If I can't stick it into the pack to make it appear "as one" I am afraid that just my camera bag and the t-pod will be considered two carryons.

Is there any such animal? If not, how do you currently travel with your pods?

I just put my 1325 in my checked luggage when traveling. It doesn't sit well on the back of a backpack...not on mine anyway. Good news is that it is light and easy to throw over your shoulder with a strap attached. Generally, I just carry it in one hand when trekking on the trail.
